Teacher portal basics
Updated Oct 9, 2026
The teacher portal is a focused view of the studio: your own teaching, and nothing else. You get in via the invitation email your studio sends you.
The sections
Calendar — your upcoming lessons, generated from the weekly schedules the studio has set, with your hours this week and month and how many of your students you have kept over the last 90 days.
Students — your roster: who you teach, what instrument, their weekly slot and their make-up credits.
Coverage — request time off, see substitute requests, and volunteer to cover another teacher's lessons.
Tasks — the studio to-dos assigned to you.
Messages — private threads with your students' families. Families see your replies in their own portal.
Recitals — upcoming recitals and your performance lineups.
Support — report a problem or send Encore an idea, and follow your own tickets. Nobody else's tickets are shown to you.
Settings — your weekly teaching hours and buffer, under Availability.
Your lessons
Lesson times are shown in the studio's timezone and extend about twelve weeks into the future automatically.
From a lesson you can mark attendance, cancel it — saying who cancelled — or move it: Just this lesson, or This and all future lessons. A move is checked against your other lessons, your buffer and your working hours, and the family is emailed the new time.
When you cancel, say who cancelled. If you cancel, the student always gets a make-up credit. A cancellation by the family earns one within your studio's make-up allowance, which the cancel step tells you.
Your hours and buffer
Under Settings → Availability, set the hours you teach each week and your Buffer between lessons (minutes) — the least time you need between one family's lesson ending and the next starting. The studio uses your hours to suggest times for new students. Siblings from the same family at the same place can still be booked back to back.
If a change would leave a lesson you already have outside your new hours, or too close to another, nothing is saved and the lessons in the way are listed. Ask the studio to move them first, or keep hours that cover them.
Time off and substitutes
Request time off from the Coverage tab. The studio owner reviews it, and affected lessons can be put up for coverage so another teacher can claim them. You will be notified when a sub is assigned to your lessons — or when a colleague needs one.
On your phone
The portal works in any phone browser, and an Encore Studio app for teachers is coming in December 2026.
